The most famous version in the series is undoubtedly 1995's *WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game*. Developed by Midway, this title was heavily influenced by *Mortal Kombat*, using digitized live-action scanning technology to create incredibly lifelike character models. The gameplay was extremely hardcore and over-the-top: each wrestler possessed surreal abilities, such as The Undertaker summoning ghosts and Doink the Clown using a giant mallet.
The game was more than just wrestling; it incorporated a fighting game-style combo system and fast-paced combat. Players could compete for the Intercontinental Championship or the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, facing a gauntlet of wrestlers in single-player mode. Although it lacked realistic physics, its immense entertainment value, iconic wrestler commentary, and satisfying impact feedback made it one of the most popular wrestling games of its era.
While the game may look like a button-masher, timing is crucial. The moment an opponent tries to grapple you, pressing the corresponding attack button or defensive direction will execute a reversal and let you regain the initiative. On higher difficulties, the AI's reaction speed is extremely fast, so learning to anticipate their running attacks is the first step to survival.
Special items sometimes appear outside the ring, though not as abundantly as in the *WWF No Mercy* series, but mastering the "rope rebound attack" at the edge of the ring is key. Push your opponent to the ropes, and as they bounce back, connect with a high-angle back suplex or a big boot to usually cause a massive stun.
