Super Sidekicks 3: The Next Glory is a classic arcade soccer game released by SNK in 1995 and is considered the pinnacle of the series.
As a key title from SNK on the MVS board, Super Sidekicks 3 reached new heights in its presentation and detail. The game introduced an all-new region selection system, allowing players to choose teams from eight regions, including Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia, to compete for the World Cup. This installment further enhanced the in-game camera work, for example, with more varied close-up animations for players after scoring a goal, and added more dramatic scenes like referee calls and penalty shootouts. In terms of gameplay, the sense of collision and player impact is more pronounced, and the feedback for tackling and shooting feels more responsive and dynamic. Additionally, this title introduced simple differences in player stats, making the distinctions between national teams in terms of speed and power more noticeable, which boosted its playability and replay value.
In this game, the "Ace Shot" from near the top of the penalty arc remains a key way to score. When dribbling to the edge of the box, it's recommended to ease off the accelerator, find a gap in the defense, and then decisively press A to shoot. If the "Chance" close-up triggers, the aiming reticle will move very quickly. You'll need to make fine adjustments with the joystick to aim for the far corner of the goal, which has a very high success rate.
When defending, avoid blindly making long-range slide tackles, as the referee in this game is quite strict, and tackling inside the box is very likely to result in a penalty. It's better to engage in close-quarters pressure by rapidly tapping the A button. If the opponent is dribbling down the wing, prioritize blocking the crossing lane rather than charging directly at the ball carrier.
Crossing from the byline is still very powerful in this installment. When the ball is crossed into the center of the box, choose your button based on the ball's height: For a high ball, press A to trigger a header or a bicycle kick; for a low ball, press A to perform a volley.
When taking a corner kick, it's recommended to aim for the back of the central area of the penalty box, to leverage the momentum of a rushing player to power the header into the goal.
As the goalkeeper, you can anticipate the save direction by observing the subtle turn of the opposing player's head; when shooting, it's best to charge the shot meter to the halfway point and combine it with a last-second directional shift to trick the AI or your opponent.
