Game Details:

The game features a single-player mode (Player vs Computer) and a highly competitive versus mode (Player vs Player). Unlike later fighting games, this title doesn't have a health bar; instead, it uses a point-based system similar to real karate matches: a successful strike earns either a "Half Point" or a "Full Point," and the first to score two points wins.

Although the graphics are limited by the era's technology, the animation is remarkably fluid, featuring a variety of kicks, punches, and blocking moves. The game's stages are very diverse, ranging from a dojo to a beach, and even include classic bonus stages like "bull-breaking" and "blocking flying objects." This realistic and gritty atmosphere directly inspired the later *Street Fighter* series.

Game Guide:

  • Dual-Stick Controls: This is the game's biggest barrier to entry. Typically, the left stick controls movement and the right stick controls the attack direction, or a combination of both. For example:
    • Spinning Back Kick: Pull both joysticks back simultaneously.
    • Low Kick: Left stick down, right stick back.
    • Defense (Block): Can only be performed by pulling the joystick back at the precise moment, which requires excellent anticipation.
  • Mastering Spacing (Footsies): Since there are no ranged attacks, the outcome of a match hinges entirely on controlling the distance between fighters. Don't rush in blindly; use small, deliberate steps to probe and bait your opponent into attacking first. As they are recovering from their move, strike with a Forward Punch or a Low Kick to easily score a point.
  • Bonus Stage Tips: In the brick-breaking or bull-breaking stages, the key is to have precise timing with the meter or rhythm. In the stages where you block flying objects (like bottles or fruit), it's best to maintain a neutral stance and execute a quick joystick combination to block the moment you judge the object's trajectory. This will significantly boost your total score.
  • Strategies for Fighting the AI: Early arcade AI follows fixed response patterns. At the start of a round, it's often effective to stay still and wait for the AI to jump or close the distance. Punishing its landing recovery with an anti-air kick or a side kick is a highly efficient way to clear the stages.
