Game Details:

This is the fourth installment in the classic "Pitfall!" series, released in 1994 and launched on multiple platforms (including SNES, Sega Genesis, PC, etc.). The core mechanics of the game are platforming and combat. The protagonist, Harry, can use weapons such as a whip, slingshot, and boomerang to fight against creatures and Mayan guards in the jungle. The level design is complex and vast, requiring players to overcome obstacles using various actions such as running, jumping, climbing, swinging from vines, and even bungee jumping. The game's graphics were top-notch at the time, employing a hand-drawn style similar to Disney animation. In addition, some versions of the game also hid the original Atari 2600 version of "Pitfall!" as an Easter egg, allowing players to experience the authentic classic.

Game Guide:

  • Utilize weapon combinations:
    • The whip is your most frequently used melee weapon, with a moderate attack range, allowing you to quickly dispatch approaching enemies.
    • The slingshot is the main ranged weapon; holding down the attack button to charge allows you to fire more powerful stones, clearing enemies that are difficult to approach or activating distant mechanisms in advance.
    • The boomerang and dynamite are rare and powerful projectiles and should be reserved for elite enemies and boss battles.
  • Platforming Skills Refinement:
    • Long-distance jumping: Jumping immediately after a running start achieves the farthest distance. When swinging on vines, you need to release at the highest point or when swinging towards the target platform to gain maximum inertia.
    • Edge grabbing: Many high platforms and edges can be grabbed by precise jumping, which helps you recover from mistakes or reach hidden areas.
    • Be cautious of "hidden" traps: The Mayan ruins are filled with instant-death traps such as darts, spikes, and fire pendulums. Observing changes in ground color, small holes in the walls, and the patrol routes of enemies can often predict the location of traps.
  • Finding Hidden Rewards:
    • Each level hides collectible treasures, some of which increase your score, while others (like lives) increase your chances of survival. Pay attention to suspicious vines, loose stones, or unusual dead ends in the background, which often indicate hidden paths.
    • Some levels hide the complete original "Pitfall!" game; finding and entering it can earn you extra rewards and is also an interesting Easter egg experience.
  • Boss Battle Strategy:
    • The game's boss battles usually test the player's patience and understanding of the boss's attack patterns. Take the final boss "Zakelua" as an example; its attack pattern is fixed. Keep moving, use your ranged weapons (preferably boomerangs or dynamite) to counterattack during the gaps in the boss's attacks, and avoid being greedy for hits.
