Building on the foundation of traditional side-scrolling action games, this title deeply incorporates the "Five Elements" concept from traditional Chinese culture. Each character possesses a corresponding elemental attribute—for example, Sun Wukong is Fire and Zhu Bajie is Earth. This attribute not only determines the effect of their exclusive Magic Treasures but also creates a system of strengths and weaknesses against level bosses. Visually, the game features vibrant colors and exaggerated skill effects. The combat is fast-paced and supports up to four-player co-op. Beyond basic punches and kicks, the game features a complex combo input system, a Treasure system (with items like the Demon-Revealing Mirror, Qiankun Fan, and Thunder Halberd), and a unique "Energy Charging" mechanic. Players must build up energy to unleash devastating "Astral Projection" ultimates or powerful Fusion Skills, offering gameplay depth far beyond other titles of its time.
When fighting bosses, using a Magic Treasure of a countering element will deal massive damage. For example, against a Fire-elemental boss, using a Water-elemental Magic Treasure or ability (like the Dragon Girl's skills) will be exceptionally effective.
This is the core mechanic of the game. You can quickly charge energy by pressing "A+B+C," and once the meter is full, you can unleash various ultimate moves. The most practical technique is the "Astral Projection" (→←↙↓↘→ + A). During its animation, your character is invincible, making it a key tool for dodging screen-wide boss attacks or trading damage favorably.
When two or more players have full energy meters and are close to each other, pressing the charge button simultaneously will trigger a Fusion Skill. Different character combinations trigger different skills, such as the "Wind and Fire Wheels" from Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie. This attack has a massive area of effect and deals extremely high damage, making it the top choice for clearing mobs and chunking down boss health.
Resources in the game are relatively limited. It's recommended to give exclusive Magic Treasures to their corresponding elemental character (e.g., the Fire Fan to Sun Wukong), while healing items should be prioritized for the player with the lowest health or the team's main damage dealer. Furthermore, learning to use the terrain for positioning and coordinating with jump attacks (C+A) to control lesser enemies can significantly reduce damage taken from being swarmed, greatly increasing your chances of clearing the stage.
