Game Details:

This title was developed by Noise Factory. It not only preserves the bizarre signature features of the Power Instinct series, like the old ladies' transformation, but also brings in four guest characters from Noise Factory's other fighting game, Rage of the Dragons (including its protagonist, Jimmy Lewis), bringing the total roster to 20 fighters.

The game's system is very hardcore and full of variables. Its most prominent feature is the "Kuroko (Referee)" system, where the referee roams the stage as a neutral NPC. They can not only be used by players to block attacks but will also throw various items (such as health-restoring food or bombs). Additionally, the game introduces a "Stress Gauge" system. A character's stress increases when they take damage, and when the gauge is full, they can enter a burst state with invincibility to unleash a powerful "Ippatsu Ougi." Its unique and "hot-blooded" musical style created an unconventional craze in the fighting game community at the time.

Game Guide:

  • Mastering the Stress Gauge: When the Stress Gauge is full, the character will automatically burst, gaining a brief moment of full-body invincibility. Skilled players will intentionally adjust their blocking rhythm while under pressure to use the burst to knock back the opponent and launch an instant counter-attack.
  • Using the Kuroko (Referee): The referee isn't just for show on the stage. You can use your positioning to force your opponent towards the referee, and certain throws can slam them into the referee to cause extra hitstun. At the same time, pay close attention to the items thrown by the referee; catching food can restore a small amount of health, while bombs can turn the tide of battle.
  • Transformation Mechanic (Specific Characters): The classic Goketsuji Sisters (Oume & Otane) can use a special throw to drain their opponent's vitality and transform back into their younger forms. Their younger forms have completely different move sets and enhanced mobility. Mastering the switch between their pre- and post-transformation move sets is a core part of their gameplay.
  • Wall Combos: The wall bounce effect at the edge of the screen is very prominent in this game. After using certain heavy attacks to launch an opponent into the wall, you can follow up with additional aerial attacks or even connect an Ippatsu Ougi.
  • Timing Your Ippatsu Ougi: Although the Ippatsu Ougi is incredibly powerful and has a special animation, it is easily blocked if it whiffs or is used from a long distance. The best times to use it are while the opponent is in the middle of a high jump or during the brief stun caused by your Stress Gauge burst.
