Game Details:

SilkWorm was officially released to the arcade market in 1988 by the Japanese company Tecmo. Set against a futuristic sci-fi military conflict, players must destroy a global military defense computer system known as "MH-C2." The game's standout feature is its unique "asymmetric vehicle" setup in two-player co-op: Player 1 controls the G-616 attack helicopter, equipped with all-around air-to-ground and air-to-air firepower, while Player 2 drives the W-15 armored jeep, which can jump and features a freely adjustable turret angle. This multi-dimensional land-and-air synergy was unique among shoot 'em ups of its time, and its graphics and sound effects were considered exceptional for the era.

Game Guide:

The core gameplay revolves around the complementary roles and synergy between the two vehicles. The helicopter is primarily responsible for high-altitude suppression and taking down large targets; its playstyle relies on utilizing its flexible 8-way movement for wide-range evasion. The armored jeep excels at ground-level defense and striking from blind spots; its core mechanic involves using the jump button combined with directional inputs to perform a "dodge roll," during which the vehicle is invincible and can be used to evade lethal bullet hell.

Pro Tips:

Destroying twin-wing supply planes within the levels will drop various power-ups, such as homing missiles, shields, and screen-clearing bombs. Shooting these items together can even upgrade them. When facing the giant armored train boss in Stage 4, the helicopter should stay above to draw fire and target the core turrets, while the armored jeep stays below, using diagonal shots to destroy the tracks and the bottom missile pods. Avoid overlapping your positions as this consolidates enemy fire; maintaining distance to create a multi-dimensional crossfire will ensure a smooth clear.
