Game Details:

The gameplay combines platforming with multi-directional shooting. Although Murphy moves slowly (reflecting his mechanical weight), he possesses immense defensive capabilities and precise firepower. The game includes side-scrolling stages, sniper levels set between buildings, and a first-person shooting gallery bonus round.

The visuals adopt a realistic style, vividly portraying enemy death animations and the city's decay. What impressed players most was its unique "punching" system—when an enemy gets too close, Murphy automatically puts away his gun and strikes them with his mechanical fist. Additionally, the game incorporated puzzle elements using an infrared scanning view, which was a very advanced interactive design for the late 1980s.

Game Guide:

  • Auto-9 Firing Rhythm: Murphy's default pistol has infinite ammo and supports a three-round burst. Don't just mindlessly mash the fire button; observe the enemy's height (standing, crouching, or in a second-story window) and use the eight-way shooting to position your shots in advance.
  • Picking Up Heavy Weapons: The Cobra Cannon, found as a drop in levels, has devastating power and can one-shot most medium-sized enemies. It's recommended to save it for the end-of-level ED-209 or armored vehicles. Note that special weapons have limited ammo, so don't waste it on lone thugs.
  • Using Defensive Mechanics: Murphy can crouch to dodge most bullets. When facing groups of enemies, "crouch-shooting" is a core survival skill. Additionally, Murphy's punch is powerful and has a few invincibility frames. When surrounded at close range, it's more effective to punch decisively than to try and jump away.
  • The ED-209 Boss Fight: This classic boss from the movie is just as tough in the game. When fighting it, the key is to watch its arm cannons. Jump when it's about to fire straight ahead, and move back when it launches missiles. Attacking its legs can cause a brief stagger, which is the best time to deal damage.
  • Bonus Stage Scoring: In the first-person shooting gallery, try to hit the center of the targets. This not only provides a lot of bonus points but, more importantly, can also replenish your health based on your performance.
