Game Details:

Developed by Dimps and released on the Game Boy Advance, Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure is a side-scrolling action game based on the first half of the original Dragon Ball series. Players primarily control Goku, but can also unlock other characters such as Krillin and Master Roshi, progressing through the game by battling through levels, jumping, exploring, and collecting Dragon Balls.

The game features a fresh and cartoonish pixel art style with smooth animations, including various combat methods such as punches, kicks, Power Pole attacks, Ki blasts, and aerial combat. Animated cutscenes are interspersed between levels, faithfully recreating content from the anime. Each chapter usually ends with a boss battle, such as members of the Red Ribbon Army, Tien Shinhan, Mercenary Tao, and you can even enter a "1V1 Fighting Mode" to experience a martial arts tournament showdown.

In addition, the game features multiple hidden items, side characters, and collectible character cards. Players can unlock a versus mode and multiple playable characters after completing the game, greatly increasing its replayability.

Editor's Recommendation:

As a long-standing anime adaptation game, Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure is arguably one of the most sincere and complete Dragon Ball games. First of all, it doesn't stick to just combat, but integrates platforming, exploration, fighting, and story together. Players can not only experience Goku's journey of growth, but also feel the depth of the game through rich combat moves and item collection.

The impact is extremely strong, and the combo execution is smooth, showcasing an excellent action experience even on the GBA platform. Moreover, various classic scenes from the original work, such as Goku's battle against the Red Ribbon Army, his fierce fight with Tien Shinhan, and even the flexible use of the Power Pole, are fully recreated. Most importantly, it's suitable for players of all ages, whether you're a longtime Dragon Ball fan or an action game enthusiast, you can find enjoyment in it.

Game Guide:

I. Basic Controls and Advanced Combat

  • Goku's initial moves include normal attacks + Power Pole. Holding down the attack button allows for charged attacks, while Ki blasts are used for ranged attacks.
  • Air combos are key for efficiently clearing enemies: jump → attack → jump again → Ki blast finisher, quickly dispatching enemies.
  • Be sure to use "Down + Attack" for downward strikes. Many enemies are in low positions or lying in ambush, requiring this action to break them.

II. Clever Use of the Power Pole

  • The Power Pole is not only for attacking, but can also be used as a puzzle-solving tool, such as:
    • Pulling levers;
    • Breaking obstacles at high places or in the distance;
    • Hooking onto hooks in the air to achieve long-distance jumps.
  • Some hidden areas can only be reached by using the Power Pole to traverse jumping paths, so be sure to explore the terrain thoroughly.

III. Boss Battle Key Points

  • Each boss has a fixed attack pattern, so observe their attack rhythm:
    • Mercenary Tao: Has a moment of vulnerability after throwing his spear, a good opportunity to attack;
    • Tien Shinhan: Uses multi-stage Ki blasts and clones, prioritize pulling away and defeating the real body.
  • It is recommended to accumulate Ki and release "Ki Blasts" frequently, as they cause flinching and can deal penetrating damage.

IV. Character Unlock Conditions (Fighting Mode)

After completing the main story, the versus mode is unlocked. Characters are unlocked gradually in the following ways:

  • Krillin: Complete the first World Martial Arts Tournament;
  • Tien Shinhan: Clear his chapter and defeat him;
  • Mercenary Tao: Collect the corresponding card in the hidden story;
  • Other characters such as Chiaotzu and Master Roshi: Unlocked by collecting all "Character Cards."

It is recommended to explore every corner of each level, as some character cards are located on hidden platforms or behind walls.

V. Additional Tips and Collection Suggestions

  • Maximum health and Ki can be increased with special items, often hidden in remote areas of the level;
  • Replaying previous levels can obtain missed cards and items. It is recommended to revisit them later after strengthening the protagonist;
  • Utilize aerial charging and retreating mechanisms in combat, as avoiding direct confrontation makes it easier to pass levels.
