Game Details:

《Cannon Fodder》 originally achieved great success on the Amiga and was subsequently ported to multiple platforms such as SNES, Genesis, and PC. The game is divided into multiple stages, with each stage containing several levels. Players typically control a small squad of two to four soldiers in each level. Gameplay controls are simple and intuitive, with clicks used to control soldiers' movement direction and firing targets. Despite the simple controls, the level design is extremely intricate and challenging. Players need to precisely plan their routes, utilize cover, and manage their soldiers' health and ammunition (grenades and rockets). The game's most prominent feature is its anti-war satirical theme. Every new recruit starts with a new name and zero rank. Once killed in action, their name is permanently etched onto a tombstone on the base screen, emphasizing the fragility and expendability of life in war.

Game Guide:

I. Training and Protecting Elite Soldiers

In Cannon Fodder, soldier rank is crucial. An elite soldier (with multiple levels of experience) has a much higher firing rate and accuracy than a rookie. Therefore, surviving veterans are the decisive factor in clearing high-difficulty levels.

  1. Move in Small Groups: Never let all your soldiers clump together, especially when facing explosives (grenades, rockets) and turrets. Spreading out your squad can effectively prevent a single attack from wiping out your entire team.
  2. Fire Superiority: Allow higher-ranked soldiers to fire first; they can eliminate enemies faster and more accurately. If rookies must move, have them walk behind veterans, utilizing the veterans' firepower for cover.
  3. Optimal Rocket Usage: Rockets are limited in number and should be saved for heavy targets such as tanks, bunkers, and armored vehicles. Do not waste them on regular infantry or obstacles. When firing rockets, ensure a clear line of sight to avoid friendly fire.

II. Advanced Combat and Control Techniques

  1. Precise Aiming and Prediction: In this game, shooting is not auto-aimed. By holding the fire button, you can precisely adjust your firing direction by moving the mouse (or joystick). When enemies are moving, you need to lead your shots, firing towards where they are about to be.
  2. Grenade Throwing Strategy: Grenades are excellent tools for dealing with enemies behind cover, turrets, and clustered enemy infantry. After throwing a grenade, immediately move your squad to avoid enemy counter-attacks. In narrow passages, grenades are highly effective for area-of-effect damage.
  3. Utilizing "Jollies" (Diversion and Luring Enemies): In some levels, you'll need to use one or two soldiers as "decoys" to draw enemy fire or activate landmines, while allowing your main force to pass safely from the flank or rear and clear the area. If a sacrifice must be made, try to choose a zero-rank rookie.
  4. Priority Targets: Always prioritize eliminating turrets and enemy rocket soldiers. Turrets have concentrated firepower, and rocket soldiers' attacks can inflict instant fatal damage. Eliminating them is crucial for your squad's survival.
