The most noticeable changes in this installment are the color saturation and the number of on-screen enemies. In the first game, Murphy moved like a heavy tank, but in the sequel, his mobility is significantly enhanced, even allowing for smooth diagonal shooting and jumping attacks.
The level design is very cinematic, taking you from drug processing plants to dilapidated shipyards, and even includes motorcycle chase sequences. The most impressive part is the "Bonus Stage," which uses an early pseudo-3D perspective where players control a crosshair to snipe thugs on the streets of Detroit, creating a highly immersive experience. In the final boss battle, players face the Cain mech—several times larger than themselves and armed to the teeth. The visual effects of sparking metal impacts and flying debris were truly the pinnacle of the 16-bit arcade era.
