Mega Man Zero is a hardcore side-scrolling action game released by Capcom for the Game Boy Advance in 2002.
Mega Man Zero was developed by Inti Creates and published by CAPCOM for the GBA in April 2002. As a hardcore spin-off sequel to the Mega Man X series, this title is set a century after the events of the X series. Tensions between humans and Reploids have reached a breaking point, and Neo Arcadia has begun a purge of "heretic" Reploids. Scientist Ciel awakens the legendary red hero, Zero, to join the resistance against the oppression. The game introduced a new free mission selection system, weapon proficiency growth, and the Cyber-Elf system. With its high skill ceiling and fluid move combos, it established the classic Zero series.
It is recommended to repeatedly attack spider webs or enemies in safe stages early on to level up the Z-Saber and Z-Buster to their maximum ranks. Upgrading the Saber unlocks the Triple Slash and Charged Slash, while Buster upgrades unlock rapid fire and Charged Shots—these are essential for dealing high damage.
In addition to the Saber and Buster, the Triple Rod allows for multi-directional thrusts and downward stabs, while the Shield Boomerang can reflect projectiles. Utilizing combos like "Charged Saber Slash + Buster Rapid Fire" can stagger bosses and create openings.
Collected Cyber-Elves provide powerful effects such as increasing max HP, reducing damage, or clearing on-screen projectiles. However, using elves permanently reduces mission scores (affecting rankings and titles). Beginners are encouraged to use health-boosting elves first to ensure survival.
When facing Copy X's first form, use dash invincibility frames to dodge his elemental attacks and strike with a Charged Saber slash during his recovery windows. His second form is a giant angel; use the floating platforms on the left and right to avoid falling rocks and beams, then focus all your firepower on his head to claim victory.
