*Mega Man Xtreme* is a spin-off title in the *Mega Man X* series, released by Capcom in 2000 for the Nintendo Game Boy Color (GBC) platform.
Although *Mega Man Xtreme* is a GBC title, it successfully condensed and ported the core gameplay of the *Mega Man X* series to the handheld console. The game offers two difficulty modes: "Normal" and "Xtreme". In Normal mode, players must defeat four Mavericks selected from *X1* and *X2*; in Xtreme mode, another four Mavericks appear. The game introduces a new villain who uses a computer virus to try and resurrect the Mavericks previously defeated by X. Just like in the main series, X can collect Heart Tanks to increase his health and acquire Armor Parts to enhance his abilities, such as the Charge Shot and stronger defense. Notably, the game also includes a password system, allowing players to continue their progress on the GBC's limited storage. The overall level design is compact and the difficulty is high, truly testing the player's mastery of the X series' controls.
Normal Mode features four classic bosses from *X1*. It is recommended to start with Chill Penguin to get the most useful weapon:
Xtreme Mode is unlocked after completing Normal Mode and features four bosses from *X2*.
The Armor Parts (Head, Body, Arm, and Leg) are key to enhancing X's abilities. They are mostly hidden in the Sigma stages or remade boss stages:
