Game Details:

Although *Mega Man Xtreme* is a GBC title, it successfully condensed and ported the core gameplay of the *Mega Man X* series to the handheld console. The game offers two difficulty modes: "Normal" and "Xtreme". In Normal mode, players must defeat four Mavericks selected from *X1* and *X2*; in Xtreme mode, another four Mavericks appear. The game introduces a new villain who uses a computer virus to try and resurrect the Mavericks previously defeated by X. Just like in the main series, X can collect Heart Tanks to increase his health and acquire Armor Parts to enhance his abilities, such as the Charge Shot and stronger defense. Notably, the game also includes a password system, allowing players to continue their progress on the GBC's limited storage. The overall level design is compact and the difficulty is high, truly testing the player's mastery of the X series' controls.

Game Guide:

I. Normal Mode Weakness Order:

Normal Mode features four classic bosses from *X1*. It is recommended to start with Chill Penguin to get the most useful weapon:

  • Flame Mammoth: Use the X-Buster / Charged Shot. His attack rhythm is slow, so master the timing of your dashes and wall jumps.
  • Armored Hornet: Use Fire Wave. The Fire Wave can penetrate his defensive shield and deal massive damage.
  • Chill Penguin: Use Armor Shield. The Armor Shield deals effective damage on contact.
  • Storm Eagle: Use Shotgun Ice. Shotgun Ice can freeze him in place and deal damage, preventing him from flying off the screen.

II. Xtreme Mode Weakness Order:

Xtreme Mode is unlocked after completing Normal Mode and features four bosses from *X2*.

  • Gasoline Spider: Use the X-Buster / Charged Shot.
  • Crystal Snail: Use Gasoline Web. Use the web's reach to attack the snail.
  • Metal Shark: Use Crystal Hunter. The crystal weapon can penetrate the water's surface to attack.
  • Swift Cobra: Use Metal Gear. This weapon can effectively restrict the cobra's rapid movements.

III. Acquiring Armor Parts:

The Armor Parts (Head, Body, Arm, and Leg) are key to enhancing X's abilities. They are mostly hidden in the Sigma stages or remade boss stages:

  • Leg Parts (Dash): Usually found early in the game to enhance mobility.
  • Arm Parts (Charge): Allows special weapons to be charged, greatly increasing combat power.
  • Body Parts (Defense): Provides a damage reduction effect, halving all damage taken.
  • Head Parts (Special): Provides special abilities, such as restoring health in certain stages.
