Developed by Takumi and published by Capcom on the CPS2 arcade board in 1999, Giga Wing is set in a war-torn steampunk world where four pilots from diverse backgrounds command aircraft to battle for the "Medallion," an object of immense destructive power. The game broke away from the traditional shoot 'em up formula of simply dodging bullets by introducing the innovative "Reflect Force" system, which instantly transforms a screen full of projectiles into score items. Its flamboyant bullet patterns and score tallies reaching into the billions caused a sensation in the competitive arcade scene of the era.
The core of the game revolves around the mastery of the "Reflect Barrier." Holding down the shot button deploys a barrier that reflects all incoming enemy fire; however, there is a brief cooldown period once the barrier dissipates.
The secret to high scores is using these reflected bullets to destroy enemies, triggering the drop of Multiplier Medals. These medals cause your base score to increase exponentially.
Recommended Characters:
The key to clearing the game is memorizing enemy spawn locations and pre-positioning for reflections. Try to activate the Reflect Barrier when the screen is most congested with bullets to maximize score multipliers. Remember, reflected bullets are not just a defensive tool—they are your most potent offensive weapon.
