Visually, Dream Soccer '94 was top-notch for its time, with very hardcore animations for sliding tackles and shots. The game did away with complicated tactical settings, emphasizing player reflexes and skill instead. Players can choose from national teams with different playstyles to take on the World Cup mode challenge. While it follows the rules of soccer, its fast-paced feel is more akin to an action game. The feedback from scrambles in the box and long-range shots is especially direct and thrilling.
Due to the game's camera angle, cutting into the penalty area diagonally is the most effective approach. On offense, use short passes to create space. When you get near the top of the box, charge up a shot for a very tricky ball trajectory. On defense, don't slide tackle recklessly. A missed tackle results in a long recovery animation. It's better to use tight marking to force the opponent into making a mistake. Against high-difficulty AI, frequently use crosses from the wings. Rushing the near post for a header can often break a deadlock. Additionally, the goalkeeper will be briefly out of position after making a save, making it the perfect time for a rebound shot to score.
