In terms of gameplay, Daemon Front is often compared to Metal Slug, but its core systems are significantly different. The game's most unique feature is its "Spirit (Pet) System." Each character has a Spirit with a different attribute. These Spirits not only act as a shield to block bullets but can also be upgraded and evolved to unleash powerful, wide-area attacks. Additionally, the game incorporates a robust melee combat mechanic and an elemental counter system. Players automatically switch to melee attacks when close to enemies, and defeating them this way drops various attribute gems. The level design is intricate, featuring a variety of environments like forests, ice fields, and ancient temples. The game also supports two-player co-op, and combined with its brilliant explosion effects and high skill ceiling, it offers immense replay value.
Your Spirit is your strongest shield. Holding the fire button charges an attack that sends your Spirit forward, which not only deals high damage but also cancels incoming projectiles. It's recommended to use your Spirit to clear a path through crowds of minions, but when facing a boss, be sure to recall it for "Shield Mode" defense to maximize your survivability.
Try to get up close to kill enemies with melee attacks (which activate automatically). Melee kills not only yield more points but also have a higher chance of dropping gems needed to upgrade your Spirit. Keeping your Spirit at its maximum level is crucial for tackling the more difficult late-game stages.
Elemental ammo (like Ice, Fire, and Electric) dropped in levels provides a damage bonus against specific enemies. For example, in the ice field level, using fire attacks can quickly melt obstacles or deal massive damage to ice-based creatures. Also, keep an eye out for destructible hidden barrels or chests in the background, as they often contain items that increase your max HP.
When playing co-op, it's recommended that one player provides ranged suppression while the other focuses on clearing enemies with melee and collecting gems. When facing a boss with a screen-wide attack, players can alternate using their charged Spirit abilities to create a continuous zone of invincibility, allowing them to get through dangerous phases without taking damage.
