The game uses a pseudo-3D perspective, where players move left and right and roll at the bottom of the screen to dodge enemy fire, while controlling a crosshair to destroy enemy tanks, helicopters, and bunkers at the top. Each level features a progress bar; after destroying a certain number of enemies, the background structures completely collapse, and the player runs into the background to advance to the next stage. The game supports two-player co-op, and its satisfying rapid-fire gunplay and roll-dodge mechanic had a profound influence on later titles such as *Mustang*.
The core tactic revolves around "cover management." At the start of a level, you have a row of brick walls in front of you. While they can block bullets, they are destructible. It's recommended to prioritize destroying enemy heavy weapons (like tanks and turrets), as their projectiles will shred your cover very quickly.
Learn to use the roll button frequently. During the roll, you have a brief window of invincibility frames (i-frames), which is the only way to dodge large explosions and dense machine-gun fire. Powerful weapons like heavy machine guns or grenades will drop randomly during combat. Don't hesitate to use them; as soon as you pick one up, use your crosshair to quickly wipe out enemy groups. Pay close attention during boss fights: the boss's weak point will typically flash. Focus your fire on it while keeping an eye out for the boss's homing projectiles, using wide side-to-side movements to create distance.
