Game Details:

In the arcades of the early '90s, this title stood out with its exaggerated character sprites and gorgeous background details. The gameplay system revolves around 'mashing' and 'timing': When two wrestlers enter a close-quarters grapple (Lock-up), players must rapidly mash buttons to gain the upper hand in the test of strength. In addition to standard ring matches, the game also introduced a 'Death Match' mode, allowing players to attack opponents with environmental objects like telephone poles and steel crates. This design, which combines elements of street brawling with professional wrestling, makes the combat exceptionally intense and unpredictable.

Game Guide:

  • How to Win a Lock-up: The most basic and crucial mechanic in this game is the grapple contest. When both characters are locked in a grapple, you must mash the A button at an extremely high frequency. If you're using a controller, it's recommended to use a 'button sliding' technique. After overpowering your opponent, quickly input a direction and a button to execute a high-damage Suplex or a back throw.
  • Mastering the Pinfall: Simply knocking down your opponent isn't enough; you must press the C button to perform a pin when their health is low. The key is to first use a powerful special move or a heavy attack from the top rope, and only attempt the pin when their health bar is red and flashing. Mashing buttons at this point will make it harder for the opponent to kick out.
  • Using the Environment Effectively: In the parking lot or factory stages, don't just trade blows head-on. Pick up the fire extinguishers, steel pipes, or wooden crates on the ground. These items not only have a long reach but also inflict a high amount of stun. Lure opponents into electric fences or corners for continuous attacks to quickly break their guard.
  • Character Recommendations:
    • Terry Rogers: Extremely well-rounded with a standard moveset, making him perfect for beginners.
    • Red Dragon: Possesses an unorthodox fire-breathing attack and high mobility, making him the top choice for zoning players.
    • The Gandhara: Has incredible strength. Although he's slow, once he gets in close, two or three heavy throws can end the match outright.
