This title is a sequel to the classic side-scrolling action shooter from Bandai Namco (formerly Namco).
Rolling Thunder 2 enhances the core gameplay of the original with comprehensive upgrades. The most notable change is the addition of a two-player co-op mode, allowing players to take on the roles of the male and female agents to tackle stages together. The game's stages span various global locations like Florida and Egypt, featuring a wider variety of enemies, from standard masked soldiers to cyborgs equipped with high-tech gear. The gameplay emphasizes using cover and timing, requiring players to quickly switch between upper and lower platforms to dodge bullets and find opportunities to counter-attack. Its unique soundtrack and fast-paced gunfight atmosphere make it a quintessential hardcore title in the action-shooter genre.
This isn't a traditional run-and-gun shooter; ammunition is relatively limited. Players must learn to take cover behind objects like doors and pillars. Pressing "Up" allows you to enter doors in the background to avoid damage, during which you can reload or pick up supplies. Jumps are divided into short and long leaps; mastering movement between the upper and lower platforms is key to survival.
The default pistol has average power but a steady rate of fire, while the Submachine Gun found in stages offers superior suppressive power. Note: Avoid spraying bullets uncontrollably; try to use burst fire to deal with minions. If you run out of ammo without finding a refill, your character will only be able to fire extremely slow single shots, which is almost a fatal handicap in a boss fight.
