This title is another cross-over masterpiece following "X-Men vs. Street Fighter." It further expands the roster of playable characters, incorporating more classic Marvel characters into the battle lineup while also retaining the iconic characters from the "Street Fighter" series. The core mechanism of the game is 2-on-2 team battles. Players can choose two characters to form a team, and they can switch characters at any time during the battle. Characters not currently in play will slowly regenerate health. The most eye-catching innovation is the "Assist" system, where players can summon a standby character to perform an assisting attack, expanding the combo combinations and tactical variations. In addition, the game offers a variety of powerful team collaboration moves, such as "Cross-Over Combination," where two characters simultaneously unleash Hyper Combos, creating an extremely spectacular scene. This fast-paced, highly free-form combo system and innovative team mechanism set the tone for the subsequent "Marvel vs. Capcom" series, bringing a revolutionary experience to the fighting game world.
The Hyper Combo Gauge (Super Special Move Gauge) is the core resource of the game. Accumulating to Lv 1 or higher allows you to unleash the character's "Hyper Combo" (Super Special Move). And at Lv 2 or higher, you can activate powerful team techniques – "Cross-Over Combination," where two characters simultaneously perform Hyper Combos, which is key to reversing the situation. In addition, using the gauge for "Cross-Over Counter" allows you to summon a teammate to counterattack and switch characters while defending, achieving an offensive and defensive transition.
This is the most strategic mechanism in the game. While on the ground, summoning a standby character to perform an assist attack can be used to extend combos, compensate for your own attack openings, break through the opponent's defense, or even safely switch characters. Choosing the right Assist character and timing is crucial. For example, use a shooting-type character's Assist to restrict the opponent's movement, or use a high-judgment melee Assist to connect combos.
Most characters in the game can trigger an "Air Combo Starter" that launches the opponent into the air, followed by a light → medium → heavy sequence to pursue the combo. Skillfully mastering the character's starting techniques and aerial pursuit methods is the basis for dealing high-damage combos. It is recommended to practice in training mode to find the rhythm and maximum number of hits for different characters' Air Combos.
When blocking an opponent's attack, using "Guard Push" can push the opponent away, creating a safe space and avoiding being suppressed. At the same time, at the moment of being knocked into the air or thrown by the opponent, promptly inputting the correct "Recovery" command can avoid falling or reduce the chance of being pursued, quickly restoring the battle situation. These defensive techniques are crucial in high-level battles.
