Game Details:

As one of the four quintessential NES titles, Rush'n Attack was a childhood memory (or nightmare) for countless players during the 8-bit era. The game is set during the Cold War, and the player's mission is to infiltrate enemy territory to rescue prisoners of war. Unlike other action games where you just grab a gun and start shooting, this title emphasizes melee-focused combat with limited ranged options. Players start with only a short knife and can obtain powerful limited-use weapons like rocket launchers and grenades by defeating specific red-clad commanders. The level design is extremely challenging; from camps filled with barbed wire fences to missile launch sites, enemy placements are incredibly dense, demanding quick reflexes and predictive positioning from the player.

Game Guide:

  • Knife Usage Tips: The knife has an extremely short range but its attack registers very quickly. When dealing with charging soldiers, don't wait for them to get close; swing preemptively when they are about one body-length away. For enemies that perform jumping attacks, crouching and attacking in place is the most effective defensive counter.
  • Acquiring and Conserving Weapons: Defeating red-clad squad leaders will drop weapons. The rocket launcher is ideal for clearing out large groups of grunts in a straight line, while grenades are effective for destroying turrets on high ground or at the bottom of slopes. Remember, weapons have limited uses. Unless you're facing a Boss (like the truck soldiers in the first stage or the minefield area later on), it's recommended to save them for the most difficult sections.
  • Dealing with Dogs and Mines: The dogs are a nightmare for many players; they are fast and have a low profile. When you hear barking, immediately prepare to perform a crouching stab. In the minefield stages, watch for small bumps on the ground and use long jumps to avoid chain explosions.
  • Boss Fight Strategies: 1. Stage One (Truck Convoy): Stand at the far left or far right of the screen, use the ladders to move up and down, and prioritize killing the soldiers who throw grenades. 2. Final Stage (Nuclear Missile Base): Enemies here will respawn infinitely, so don't get bogged down fighting them. Wait for the right moment and use the rocket launcher to hit the final target directly for a swift victory.
  • Core Positioning Logic: Never stay in the middle of the screen for too long. Try to stay within the left third of the screen. This gives you enough space to react to enemies attacking from behind while also allowing you to use ladders to dodge enemy projectiles.
