Dino Rex was officially released by Taito in 1992. The game is set in a fictional prehistoric era where humans have tamed dinosaurs as tools for arena combat. Featuring 2D side-scrolling fighting mechanics, the game boasts a realistic art style and stages filled with destructible elements. There are 6 playable dinosaurs, and in addition to traditional health bars, the game introduces a unique power system. Due to its unconventional animation design and hardcore difficulty, it has become one of the most distinctive dinosaur-themed fighting titles in arcade history.
The core of the game lies in power gauge management; holding down the attack button charges your energy, significantly increasing attack power at higher levels. Gameplay Depth: Given the massive size of the dinosaurs and the resulting defensive pressure, it is recommended to use mid-range poking rather than close-quarters brawling. Move List Example (T-Rex): Close-range throws are essential for high damage, and performing Down, Forward + Button executes a charge attack. Completion Tip: Make use of the stage edges; pin your opponent in the corner and use heavy attacks to break their guard. Character Profiles: T-Rex has high attack power but slow turn speed, suitable for power-oriented players; Triceratops has high dash speed, ideal for rushdown tactics. Note: The game features hidden bonus stages where winning can grant a massive score boost. During battles, watch for falling rocks from above and use the terrain wisely to avoid lethal hits.
