Game Details:

"Anode Tamer" is a WonderSwan exclusive game released by Bandai in Japan and Asia (mainly Hong Kong) in 1999. This game is the first time Digimon was presented in a tactical RPG format on handheld consoles. The story takes place after the "Digimon Adventure" anime, where the protagonist Ryo is summoned to the Digital World and teams up with Agumon to fight against a world thrown into chaos by the revival of Millenniumon. The gameplay adopts a turn-based tactical battle mechanism, where players can control up to three Digimon in combat, each with different attack ranges, abilities, and growth potential. It also includes a feeding system, a cleaning system, and status management, simulating the combination of a virtual pet and RPG training. The game only has Japanese and English versions, with the English version being a special Asian edition, later integrated into "Anode & Cathode Tamer - Veedramon Version".

Editor's Recommendation:

As one of the early works in the Digimon series, "Anode Tamer" showcases the depth and playability of tactical RPGs on handheld consoles. Although the graphics are black and white, its complex battle strategies, Digimon management system, and coherent original storyline earned it the love of many players back then. Especially the restoration of characters from the series, such as Agumon, Devimon, Myotismon, etc., made anime fans feel very familiar. More importantly, this game laid the foundation for the stories of the subsequent "Cathode Tamer" and "Veedramon Version", holding an important historical position. Recommended for those who enjoy tactical games,育成 (nurturing/training) games, and Digimon fans to experience the classics.

Game Walkthrough:

1. Get Familiar with Battle Rhythm and Map Layout:

Battles use a turn-based tactical mode, with each Digimon having a fixed movement range and attack grid. Initially, it is recommended to prioritize practicing and familiarizing yourself with the attack direction and range of Digimon like Agumon and Betamon to avoid being counterattacked by enemies.

2. Utilize Terrain and Ranged Attacks:

Some maps have obstacles or narrow path designs, allowing you to use the attack advantages of ranged Digimon (such as Elecmon) to consume enemy HP from a distance. Reasonable positioning can effectively reduce damage.

3. Manage the Status of Digimon:

After each battle, pay attention to replenish food and clean the status bar of the Digimon. A decline in status will affect battle hit rate and action speed, resulting in significant losses in battle.

4. Seize Story Turning Points to Recruit New Companions:

In the game, some DigiDestined companions can be rescued through the storyline and join your team. When encountering story nodes, interact with the characters on the map to trigger additional events.

5. Repeatedly Farm Wilds to Train Digimon:

Although the game does not have a traditional experience system, improving proficiency and obtaining items through battles is extremely important. It is recommended to use save points to repeatedly train key characters, such as Agumon and Gatomon.

6. Pay Attention to Save Management and Backup:

The original WonderSwan console can only have a single save file; it is recommended to frequently back up multiple progress points when playing with an emulator to prevent having to restart due to failing boss battles.
