Originally released to arcades in 1994 by the team behind Time Killers, BloodStorm is set in a dystopian future following a global cataclysm. Earth has been carved into several regions ruled by various warlords and mutant races. To seize ultimate control of the world, the most formidable fighters and cyborgs from every faction have joined the brutal contest known as "BloodStorm." Featuring large digitized sprites, the game fully upgrades the dismemberment system of its predecessor while introducing rich interactive environmental traps and a unique weapon-pickup mechanic, making it one of the definitive American hardcore fighting games of the mid-90s.
The core gameplay centers on "limb destruction" and "tactical weapon management." The game utilizes a five-button control system (two punches, two kicks, and a special action button).
During a match, players can sever an opponent's arms through specific combos or powerful heavy strikes, stripping them of certain offensive capabilities; if both arms are severed, the opponent will be unable to block. A major highlight of the game is the ability to "inherit" a defeated opponent's exclusive special abilities or weapons for use in the next round. When facing high-difficulty AI in single-player mode, it is recommended to choose the well-rounded character "Razor" or "Tempest," who possesses strong long-range zoning tools. Use crouching light punches and kicks for low-profile pokes; once the opponent is pushed to the corner, utilize environmental traps like spikes or lava for extra damage. When the opponent's health is low, time your inputs by pressing all attack buttons to trigger a finishing move and secure the win.
