The Simpsons Arcade Game is a classic side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Konami.
Released in 1991, this title is one of the most successful games in *The Simpsons* series. The game used advanced digitized graphics for its time, perfectly recreating the art style of the original animated series. Each character has a unique attack method: Homer attacks with his fists and feet, Marge uses a vacuum cleaner, Bart swings his skateboard, and Lisa uses a jump rope as a weapon. Not only does the game feature a variety of level designs (including downtown, an amusement park, and even a dream sequence), but it also introduced an innovative "team-up attack" system, where two players standing close together can launch a special joint attack. Its fast-paced combat, exaggerated character animations, and nods to gags from the original cartoon have made it an unforgettable childhood memory for countless veteran players.
Although the four characters have similar base stats, their attack ranges differ. Marge's vacuum cleaner has a long vertical reach, making her suitable for beginners who want to create distance; Bart has a faster movement speed, ideal for weaving through enemies. Lisa's jump rope has a high attack rate, allowing her to quickly clear out groups of enemies.
This is a core mechanic of the arcade version. When two players stand side-by-side without moving for about a second, their characters will enter a charged state. For example, Homer and Bart can perform a "rolling attack," where Homer picks up Bart and spins into enemies. Team-up attacks deal extremely high damage and have invincibility frames, making them god-tier moves for dealing with crowds.
There are various items that can be picked up in the levels, such as bowling balls, hammers, or roadside trash cans. These throwable weapons are effective for hitting distant targets. Additionally, pets or little helpers often appear in the levels, providing health pickups.
1. Level 1 Drunkard: Watch out for his jumping ground-pound attack. Sidestep to dodge, then counter-attack. 2. Final Boss Montgomery Burns: Burns will be in a mecha suit. In the first phase, focus on dodging his missile barrages. In the second phase, he will swing his mechanical arms at close range. It's recommended to use a "hit-and-run" tactic; avoid getting greedy with your hits.
Between levels, there are mini-games like balloon-pumping contests. Mashing the buttons can earn you extra points and bonus lives, so don't miss out.
