Game Details:

This title, developed by Tecmo, was first released in arcades in 1986, but it was its home console port that truly became a classic for players. The game is set in a fantastical ancient world, blending sci-fi with Greek mythological themes. The protagonist wields a unique weapon called the "Diskarmor," which can be thrown like a yo-yo to attack distant enemies or used for defense.

Unlike the linear stages common at the time, the series (particularly the NES version) introduced early Metroidvania-like concepts. Players need to acquire specific items like ropes and grappling hooks to access previously unreachable areas, a sense of exploration that was very ahead of its time. The game features a wide variety of settings, from forests and lava pits to floating cloud-top temples, which, combined with intense boss battles, showcased a high level of production quality.

Game Guide:

  • Using the Diskarmor: Your weapon deals damage both when thrown and when it returns. Take advantage of this by positioning yourself so the Diskarmor clips groups of enemies on its way back. Throwing it mid-jump adjusts the attack height, which is key for dealing with flying enemies.
  • Attribute Upgrades: There are two key stats in the game: Tone (Strength) and Last (Defense). You can accumulate points by defeating mobs in the overworld. Each time these values reach a certain threshold, your attack range and damage resistance will increase significantly. It's recommended to grind mobs in the open area near the starting point to raise your stats before entering the temple areas.
  • Obtaining Key Items:
    • Wind Pulley: A must-have item used for sliding between two divine trees.
    • Grappling Hook: Allows you to latch onto high ledges and pull yourself up, acting as the key to unlocking mid to late-game areas.
    • Crossbow: Can fire a rope that embeds in walls, used to cross large chasms.
  • Boss Fight Tips: When facing large late-game bosses, remember not to get greedy with your attacks. Most bosses have a fixed attack pattern. Use the maximum range of your Diskarmor to chip away at their health while maintaining a safe distance. If you're low on health, find the specific hidden rooms and speak with the old men, who will usually restore your health.
