Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team ProtoMan is an action role-playing game released by Capcom for the Game Boy Advance in 2004.
Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team ProtoMan is an action RPG for the GBA, released by Capcom in Japan in 2004 and North America in 2005. The story follows the evil organization Nebula as they launch a surprise attack on Net Society and forcibly occupy the Internet Center. Lan Hikari and MegaMan are invited to join the special team formed by ProtoMan. This entry introduces the "Liberation Mission" gameplay for the first time, where players command teammates on a grid-based board to fight in synchronized combat. Combined with the Soul Unison system, it offers deep strategic depth and a thrilling real-time Battle Chip combat experience.
Liberation Missions take place on a turn-based board, where the goal is to purify Dark Panels in the fewest turns possible. Make good use of ProtoMan's "Sword" area attack and MagnetMan's defense. Deleting all enemies within a single turn triggers a "1-Turn Liberation," which directly clears the surrounding 3-panel area.
This version exclusively features Proto Soul, Magnet Soul, Gyro Soul, Shadow Soul, and Napalm Soul. When facing hardcore bosses, "Proto Soul" (which doubles charged sword damage and enables step-in slashes) and "Shadow Soul" (which grants invisibility and Anti-Damage techniques) are the core pillars for survival and damage output.
While Dark Chips can deal devastating damage instantly, they permanently reduce Max HP by 1 and prevent the use of Soul Unison. New players are advised to stay on the "Light" path.
Focus on building a folder with "*" (Asterisk) codes and high-frequency Program Advances (P.A.s, like GigaCannon). When facing the final boss, Nebula Gray, keep a medium distance to bait its attacks. During its recovery frames, activate Proto Soul for a charged slash combined with high-tier P.A.s to break through its defenses.
