A side-scrolling beat 'em up action game released by Video System in 1991.
Karate Blazers is an arcade action game released by Video System in 1991. Set in a chaotic modern city, four martial arts masters take to the streets to battle hordes of thugs, rescue a kidnapped professor's daughter, and dismantle an evil organization. The game features a gritty art style, generous hitboxes, and excellent environmental destruction. While its core gameplay is heavily influenced by Final Fight, it offers a faster pace and a higher enemy count. Combined with its 4-player simultaneous play, the combat is incredibly intense. Thanks to its fluid combo mechanics, it earned a dedicated fan base during the arcade era.
The game utilizes a three-button control scheme: Attack, Jump, and Special. Characters have a wide array of combos, typically triggered by repeatedly tapping the attack button.
Pro-Tip: In boss battles, the core strategy involves using diagonal movement (Y-axis positioning) to bait boss attacks, dodging, and then following up with side-approach combos. Keep an eye out for treasure chests in the environment; they contain not only healing food but also various long-range throwable weapons that can clear the screen instantly.
