Game Details:

Developed by GAME FREAK, Pokémon Sword and Shield is set in the Galar Region, a land where industry and natural beauty intertwine. Here, Pokémon battles are celebrated as the region's most popular competitive sport. Starting from a quiet rural town and backed by a recommendation from Champion Leon, players embark on a journey to challenge massive Gym stadiums across the land. The game's core battle mechanic is "Dynamax," which allows Pokémon to grow to mountain-sized proportions and gain powerful moves at specific Power Spots. Certain Pokémon can also undergo "Gigantamaxing," which changes their appearance. The game also introduces "Max Raid Battles," a first for the series that supports online co-op for multiple players.

Game Guide:

The core gameplay revolves around the "timing of Dynamax tactics" and "early harvesting of Wild Area resources."

Pro Tips for Your Journey:

Riches of the Wild Area: Before reaching the first Gym, players can access the vast "Wild Area." Using the overworld encounter system and red beams (Max Raid Battles), you can catch rare Pokémon with high base stats early on. By participating in low-star Max Raid Battles, you can easily stockpile "Exp. Candies" and powerful Technical Records (TRs). Giving a few candies to your starter for a modest level boost will make the early game feel like a breeze.

Starter Evolution Advantages: It is recommended to choose Sobble (the Water-type starter that eventually evolves into Inteleon, boasting high Special Attack, Speed, and its signature move Snipe Shot) or Scorbunny (the Fire-type starter that evolves into Cinderace, featuring high physical burst and its powerful signature kick move Pyro Ball).

Dynamax Strategy in Gym Battles: When challenging the various stadiums of the Galar Region, Gym Leaders will invariably Dynamax or Gigantamax their final Pokémon. Since Dynamax only lasts for three turns in standard battles, the safest strategy is to Dynamax your own core Pokémon the moment the Gym Leader sends out their final one. Use the secondary effects of Max Moves, such as weather or stat changes (e.g., Max Knuckle’s Attack boost or Max Airstream’s Speed boost), to gain the upper hand. If you are at a type disadvantage, you can also use Pokémon with "Protect" or high bulk to stall out the enemy's three-turn Dynamax window through switching, making the final cleanup much easier.
