Game Details:

Pokémon Silver builds a vast Johto world in a third-person overhead view, with diverse terrains such as forests, caves, and water areas. You randomly encounter wild Pokémon and enter a turn-based battle interface, where players can configure a maximum of 6 Pokémon to participate. The core goals of the game are to defeat the Johto Gym Leaders, smash the Team Rocket's plan, and reach the top of the Pokémon League, while also collecting all 251 Pokémon to complete the Pokédex. Compared to the first generation, this game adds a day-night clock system that affects the refreshing of wild Pokémon and special events, supports Pokémon carrying items, and revamped the backpack interface. After clearing Johto, you can enter the Kanto region (the world where Red and Blue are located) to battle the Gyms again, bringing a two-region linked experience. In terms of battles, it introduces the "Steel/Dark" dual new attributes, status effects, gender and breeding mechanics, making the tactical level richer. Sound effects and hundreds of hours of content remind players of its vast game capacity, and GameSpot estimates that its playtime naturally exceeds 60 hours.

Editor's Recommendation:

Pokémon Silver not only improves the original's basic system but also introduces long-term settings such as day-night mechanics and breeding, which greatly enhances the game's strategic and replay value. Being able to play in two battle regions within the same cartridge and collect over 250 types of Pokémon brings milestone significance to the series. Even today, its free exploration, in-depth training, and turn-based strategy are still beloved by RPG fans and retro gamers. If you haven't experienced the second generation, this classic of the Gold and Silver era is definitely worth collecting and staying up all night for.

Game Guide:

I. Main Storyline Flow Suggestions

  • Prioritize clearing the Johto Gyms and rescuing Slowpoke (from Alola), preventing Team Rocket's conspiracy. Focus on the day-night refresh mechanism to catch time-exclusive Pokémon like Zapdos and Sneasel.
  • After completing the City Center storyline, head to the Pokémon League to defeat Champion Lance, then use the new bike path to quickly switch to playing in the Kanto region.

II. Team and Training Strategies

  • Integrate Steel/Dark-type Pokémon to counter Johto-style Bosses and fire-type attacks; Dragon, Flying, Water, and Ground-type combinations can cover various attribute targets.
  • Use the egg hatching temperature and gender ratio to breed high IV Pokémon, and coordinate with Iron-type Pokémon for base speed.
  • Possessing specific items such as Technical Machines (TMs) and held items can enhance long-term battles, Healing Band and Leftovers can improve durability.

III. Day and Night and Time Mechanism

  • Catch low-level Bug/Electric types during the day, and catch Haunter and Gastly at night; rare Pokémon also appear in the early morning and at noon.
  • Special holidays or weekly limited events need to synchronize with the real-time clock, it is recommended to save battery power or use a spare Game Boy Color.

IV. Backpack and Resource Management

  • Obtain backpack upgrades as early as possible (first look for Pokéball Upgrades) to reduce temporary discarding of resources.
  • Use the PC to store useless items to free up space and save return trip time during the game.

V. Late-game Collection and Challenges

  • Use the old Red and Blue versions or virtual platforms to trade for Raichu, Ampharos, Spearow, and Zapdos combinations; and challenge the old Gym Leaders in the Kanto map to obtain TMs.
  • Rewards after completing the Pokédex include Rare Candies and rare intimacy training items, etc.
  • The ultimate goal is to defeat the Rainbow Board Top 6, conduct the highest level of battles and complete the shiny collection of species.

VI. Useful Tips

  1. It is recommended to perform chain catching at Night to save time and retain HF for breeding.
  2. Use the Pokégear phone system to re-challenge trainers and get rare items;
  3. Level up quickly at night, and there is a high probability of encountering rare species;
  4. You can purchase the Core Game manual, maps, etc., to reduce getting lost;
  5. Make multiple saves and use 3DS VC to roll back to resolve difficulties and setbacks.
