Pokémon Sapphire is a classic role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance in 2002.
Pokémon Sapphire and Pokémon Ruby are companion versions of the same generation. The game is set in the Hoenn region, a land of vast oceans and volcanic landscapes. In this title, players must not only challenge the eight Gyms to prove their strength but also confront Team Aqua, an evil organization plotting to use the Legendary Pokémon Kyogre to trigger torrential rains and expand the world's oceans. A milestone in the series' history, it utilized the GBA's hardware to achieve a leap in visual fidelity and introduced the "Abilities" and "Natures" systems that revolutionized the competitive ecosystem, remaining an absolute classic in the childhood memories of countless players.
The core gameplay centers on classic type matchups, effective Double Battle team compositions, and world exploration.
For your starter, the Water-type Mudkip is highly recommended. After evolving into Swampert, its Water/Ground typing provides an excellent defensive profile with almost no fatal weaknesses except for Grass-type moves, allowing it to easily sweep most of Hoenn's Gyms. While navigating Hoenn's massive waterway network, catching a Marill or Zigzagoon to serve as an "HM slave" is essential, as they can learn almost all field moves like Dive, Surf, Waterfall, and Strength. To counter the 6th Gym in Fortree City (Flying-type) and the 7th Gym in Mossdeep City (Psychic-type Double Battle), it is suggested to catch a Manectric in the tall grass near Fortree or a Ghost-type Duskull at Mt. Pyre. Once you catch the cover Legendary Kyogre at the Cave of Origin in Sootopolis City, utilize its "Drizzle" ability paired with a 100% accurate "Thunder" or high-power "Surf" to easily sweep the Elite Four and Champion Steven Stone.
