Pokémon Recordkeepers is a narrative-driven, time-travel themed fan ROM hack built on a deeply modified Pokémon FireRed engine.
"Pokémon Recordkeepers" is a highly creative fan-made title. The core concept revolves around "time travel," where the setting is no longer limited to a single region but is interwoven with the Kanto, Hoenn, and Hisui regions across various historical shards. In this world, villains known as the "Chrono-Disruptors" attempt to erase the historical traces of Legendary Pokémon, causing the timeline to fall into chaos. As a Chronicler for the Time-Space Management Bureau, the player must correct these historical errors. This title integrates Pokémon from Generations 8 and 9, implements the Physical/Special split, and features a multi-branching narrative where every choice made across time affects the story's progression and the Ancient/Future Pokémon available for capture.
The core gameplay lies in "Timeline Switching" and "Time-Distorted Team Composition."
Timeline Branching: During the early to mid-game, players will face several choices between "Traveling to the Past" or "Traveling to the Future." Taking the Past timeline allows for earlier encounters with Hisuian forms (such as Hisuian Growlithe) and high-Attack Ancient species. Traveling to the Future provides early access to high-Special Attack, tech-themed Future species, or Steel and Electric-type Pokémon. It is recommended to choose a timeline that complements your Starter Pokémon’s typing for a smoother early-game experience.
Beware the Time Paradox Mechanic: Specific areas in the game feature a "Time-Space Instability" status. In these maps, weather will automatically cycle between Harsh Sunlight, Rain, Sandstorm, and Snow every three turns. Therefore, it is not recommended to rely blindly on a single weather-based team (such as a pure Rain team). It is best to train two Pokémon with weather-changing abilities (like Pelipper or Torkoal) or heavy-hitting physical attackers to ensure consistent damage output.
Dealing with Chrono-Villain Bosses: During the final showdown, the villainous leaders will use powerful Legendary Pokémon with "Time/Space" themes (such as weakened projections of Dialga and Palkia). Faced with these high-base-stat enemies, attempting a direct offensive often results in a total party wipe. While exploring timeline ruins in the mid-game, make sure to obtain the core item "Time-Space Anchor" (protects the holder from negative field effects). In battle, use Fairy and Steel-type Pokémon for safe defensive pivoting and combine this with your primary attacker's Mega Evolution for a decisive strike to successfully restore the timeline and become the ultimate Chronicler.
