Pokémon LeafGreen is a role-playing game developed by Game Freak and released by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance in 2004.
Released simultaneously with Pokémon FireRed, Pokémon LeafGreen marks the Pokémon series' first official enhanced remake. The game perfectly recreates the core plot of the original 1996 Game Boy titles, where players take on the role of a young Trainer from Pallet Town starting their journey after choosing a starter Pokémon from Professor Oak. Beyond challenging Kanto's eight Gyms and the Elite Four, and thwarting the villainous Team Rocket's schemes, the game's biggest upgrades include the integration of Generation III's "Abilities," "Natures," and move categorization systems. It also features the expanded post-game "Sevii Islands" storyline, where players can catch Pokémon from Generation II (Johto region), achieving a perfect fusion of old and new generations.
The core gameplay centers on classic type advantages, effective team synergy, and the strategic allocation of HM items.
For your starter Pokémon, it is highly recommended to choose the Grass-type Bulbasaur or the Water-type Squirtle. Bulbasaur holds a significant geographical advantage in the Kanto region, easily crushing the first two Gyms (Pewter City's Rock-type and Cerulean City's Water-type) with its type superiority, making it an excellent choice for beginners. For the mid-to-late game, catching a Snorlax is recommended (awaken it using the Poké Flute on Route 12 or 16); its massive HP and Special Defense make it a top-tier tank. When paired with the moves "Body Slam" and "Rest," it offers an extremely high margin for error. Additionally, be sure to pick up the HMs "Surf" and "Strength" in the Safari Zone at Fuchsia City. When facing the final rival Champion battle, the enemy lineup is very well-rounded. It is suggested to have an Electric-type Pokémon on your team (such as Zapdos caught at the Power Plant or a Pikachu from the Safari Zone evolved into Raichu) to counter their Water and Flying types. By leveraging these type advantages, you can successfully enter the Hall of Fame.
