Super Robot Wars R is a tactical RPG released by Banpresto for the GBA in 2002.
Super Robot Taisen R is a tactical role-playing game released by Banpresto for the Game Boy Advance in Japan in August 2002, serving as the second Super Robot Wars title on the GBA platform (with "R" standing for Reversal/Rescue). The story follows the protagonist, Raul (or Fiona), piloting mecha such as the Laz-Angriff. After being ambushed by a mysterious faction, they are unexpectedly cast through time and space, fighting alongside legendary mecha heroes across generations in a bid to rewrite a devastating future and prevent the world's destruction. The game introduced the "Commander System" and "Weapon Upgrade Inheritance" for the first time, significantly enhancing both tactical depth and unit progression.
Commander-type characters such as Bright and Lacam project an aura that grants adjacent units bonuses to accuracy and evasion. When advancing the front lines, always ensure your primary combat units remain within the Commander's aura.
The protagonist mecha (Laz-Angriff / Excellence) boast exceptional all-around performance; the Nadesico from Martian Successor Nadesico features a full-screen MAP attack and a powerful A.T. Field, making it a cornerstone for crowd control and survivability; Gundam X and Combattler V also pack devastating single-target burst finishers.
Prioritize spending Funds on upgrading primary attack weapons and max EN. Assign the "Super Alloy Z" power part to low-defense units, and equip "Large Generators" to mecha with high EN consumption to boost their battlefield endurance.
When confronting high-HP final bosses protected by barriers, first use support pilots to cast "Daunt" to drain their Morale. Then, have your main damage dealers cast "Valor/Soul" along with "Strike," unleashing Combination Attacks and high-damage finishers to stagger and wipe them out in a decisive burst.
