Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation is a classic tactical RPG released by Banpresto for the GBA in 2002.
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation is a Game Boy Advance tactical role-playing game developed by Banpresto, released in Japan in November 2002 and North America in 2006. Eschewing licensed anime mecha for the first time, this title built an entirely new universe centered around Banpresto's own original characters and mecha. Set in Space Era 187, as alien invasions loom and domestic factions plot in the shadows, Ryusei and Kyosuke pilot powerful mecha to defend the Earth on behalf of the "SRX Project" and "ATX Project," respectively. With its outstanding narrative structure and top-tier visuals, it remains a celebrated classic among GBA tactical RPGs.
The game is divided into Ryusei's Route (leaning toward Super Robots with heavy burst damage and ultimate attacks) and Kyosuke's Route (leaning toward Real Robots with high evasion and physical kinetic penetrations). Kyosuke's Route is recommended for beginners, as its aggressive rushdown style and melee combat are much easier to master.
Each stage features specific Battle Mastery conditions. Your Battle Mastery count influences both overall game difficulty and the unlocking of secret mecha (such as Cybuster's advanced forms and Granzon). It is advisable to use Save/Load strategically on pivotal stages to optimize your tactical deployment.
Prioritize spending PP earned from battle to teach core pilots skills like "Continuous Attack," "E-Save," and stats such as "Evade/Hit." Ryusei should prioritize boosting Will/Morale and Attack power, while Kyosuke and Excellen should focus on Hit Rate and E-Save.
When confronting bosses equipped with high HP Regeneration and AT Zone barriers, open the battle by using support units to cast Spirit commands like "Analyze/Scan" and "Exhaust." Then, have your primary attackers cast "Strike" along with "Valor/Soul" to unleash combination attacks and wipe them out in a single decisive turn.
