"Power Blade" is an action platform game for the NES, released in 1991.
The game is set in New Earth in 2191, where the Master Computer is invaded by an unknown alien virus. Agent Nova must go to six areas to find the "contacts", get the ID card and enter the key room to defeat the guards and get the tapes. The level design is non-linear, supporting 8-way shuriken attacks, weapon upgrades, and Power Suit armor, which can enhance attacks and withstand three hits. The game has password continuation and hard mode, but is generally easy to get started with. The levels have a multi-path design, enhancing the sense of exploration, and the shuriken effects can penetrate walls and multiple can be on the screen at the same time, which is very exciting. The sound effects are by Kinuyo Yamashita, the composer of Castlevania, with a dynamic style. Although the game borrows from classic elements such as Rockman, Contra, and Castlevania, it forms its own charm through tight controls and a clever combination of non-linear levels. The player community often comments that it is "fast-paced" and "levels are short but enjoyable", suitable for short-time play.
If you like fast-paced and precise action platform games of the NES era, "Power Blade" is definitely a hidden gem. Its eight-way shuriken and Power Suit system make the battle both tactical and exciting; the level design is rich in layers and not rigid; the password continuation system also makes the game experience more friendly. In addition, the soundtrack is produced by the "Castlevania" team, and the classic theme is impressive, which is a must-play for players who pursue "short, flat, fast" retro fun.
