Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is a classic spin-off title released by Nintendo and Chunsoft on the Game Boy Advance in 2005.
《Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team》 is the first perfect fusion of the "Mystery Dungeon" series and the Pokémon IP. The game tells the story of the protagonist, originally a human, who wakes up one day to find they have been transformed into a Pokémon and lost their human memories. In this world inhabited only by Pokémon, natural disasters are occurring frequently across the land. To save Pokémon in crisis or who have gone astray, the protagonist and their partner form a "Rescue Team." Simultaneously released as "Red Rescue Team" for the GBA and "Blue Rescue Team" for the NDS, the game became an immortal classic due to its beautiful pixel art, strategic turn-based grid gameplay, and an epic story widely considered the ultimate tear-jerker of the Pokémon franchise.
Core gameplay revolves around "procedural dungeon exploration," "Belly and item management," and "turn-based grid tactics."
Starting Personality Quiz: The personality test at the beginning of the game determines which Pokémon you will become. If you have a specific protagonist in mind (such as Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Pikachu), you can consult a nature chart beforehand to choose the right answers. Afterward, choose a partner Pokémon with a complementary type as your lifelong companion (e.g., if the protagonist is a Fire-type, a Water or Grass-type partner is recommended).
Dungeon Survival Rules: Dungeons operate on a strict turn-based system where "the enemy moves when the player moves." Moving through a dungeon constantly consumes your "Belly" meter; always keep Apples in your bag, as your HP will rapidly drop if your Belly hits zero. Additionally, extremely dangerous "Monster Houses" will randomly appear; if you step into one, you will be instantly surrounded by hordes of enemies. Don't try to brute-force your way out—use strategic items like a "Slumber Orb" or "Pure Seed" to escape.
Combat and Move Linking: While in a dungeon, you can visit Wigglytuff's shop in the square to "Link" two moves together. This allows you to unleash two skills in a single turn (e.g., leading with "Tail Whip" to lower defense, followed immediately by a physical attack), which can instantly KO tough Floor Leaders or Bosses. When facing legendary bosses like Articuno or Rayquaza at the peaks of Mt. Silver, utilize ranged moves (like Thundershock or Ember) to kite them, and use "Petrify Orbs" or seeds to disable their AoE attacks. With smart type advantages and item management, you'll be ready to save the world.
