*Paperboy* is a highly creative and challenging arcade game released by Atari Games in 1984.
In *Paperboy*, players have one week (Monday to Sunday) to maintain and expand their newspaper subscription business. The game takes place on a continuously scrolling suburban street where players must make deliveries on the move. Successfully delivering to subscribers earns a high score, while vandalizing the windows or property of non-subscribers also grants a "vandalism score." However, failing to deliver a paper to a subscriber will cause them to cancel their subscription the next day. The game's difficulty increases with each passing day, and the obstacles on the street become more frantic. After the route is finished, players enter an obstacle course for a timed challenge to earn bonus points.
When delivering papers, timing is key. The newspaper's trajectory is affected by your bike's speed, so it's recommended to slow down slightly as you approach a subscriber's house to improve accuracy. Tossing a paper into a Mailbox scores far more points than leaving it on the Doorstep. For houses that have canceled their subscription, you don't need to deliver a paper, but you can earn bonus points by breaking their windows or knocking over their decorations.
The most dangerous things on the street aren't the moving cars, but the random obstacles that appear suddenly.
You have a limited number of newspapers. During the level, be sure to pick up the stacks of papers scattered on the roadside to replenish your ammo. Don't waste papers on non-subscriber areas, or you might find yourself in the awkward situation of running out of ammo when you encounter many subscribers later in the level. In the final level on Sunday, the obstacles will be at their most dense. It's recommended to adopt a "survival first, delivery second" strategy.
