This title is the PlayStation entry in the classic city-building and railway management simulation series, A-Train.
Developed by Artdink and released for international markets by Maxis in 1996, A-Train: Trains - Power - Money is set against the backdrop of modern urban development. Players are responsible not only for planning railway networks and setting schedules, but also for managing power grids, real estate, and stock market investments. Compared to its predecessors, this entry attempted a 3D graphical presentation, offering a more intuitive perspective of the city. As an evolution of A-Train IV, it blends complex economic modeling with city-building elements, making it a classic choice for hardcore simulation enthusiasts.
The core strategy lies in "transport-driven development." In the early game, prioritize laying single-track lines between resource nodes or potential residential zones, and deploy freight trains to transport "construction materials," which are essential for building skyscrapers and power plants. Maintaining a power supply slightly above demand (a surplus of around 10,000kWh) ensures steady urban growth while sustaining high profits from electricity rates. Utilize the time-acceleration feature to get through capital accumulation phases, but remain wary of bank loan interest. In the mid-to-late game, diversify your revenue by trading stocks and investing in subsidiaries such as hotels and department stores. If you hit a financial bottleneck, you can use 10-year long-term loans from the market menu for liquidity. Remember, an optimized train schedule is the key to preventing congestion and maximizing occupancy rates.
